Dear Customers (Malaysia SMS),

Prohibited content collectively refers to the use of hyperlinks, requests for users' personal information, and call-back telephone numbers within SMS contents.

10: URL Filtering and Blocking for Malaysia SMS (03 Nov 2022) |
Dear Customer (for SMS to Malaysia),
Please be advised that there have been significant incidents of fraudulent and phishing activities lately causing the Telcos to express concerns.
As such, we will be taking steps to ensure suspicious URLs in such SMS content are masked to protect mobile subscribers. Effective immediately, all SMS message campaigns containing embedded URL shorteners will be blocked.
Moving forward, you may request URLs to be whitelisted via our support team to ensure they are not masked.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,

11: No Longer Support Transport Layer Security Versions 1.0 and 1.1 (01 Nov 2022) |
Dear Valued Customer,
Greetings from SMS Team,
As of NOV 11, 2022, we only support TLS v1.2. The support for previous versions has been discontinued. If you are using a TLS version lower than 1.2, you won't be able to send any requests to our platform.
TLS 1.0 and 1.1 will no longer be supported by Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla. ICTs should decommission or upgrade TLS 1.0 and 1.1 to a supported cryptographic protocol. Upgrading will significantly reduce risk to the ICT's environments as these protocols make use of outdated algorithms and cryptosystems that have been found vulnerable (e.g., SHA-1 and MD5). They also lack modern features like perfect forward secrecy and are susceptible to downgrade attacks.
Sincerely,
SMS Team |
12: Communication on Singapore Registration (26 Oct 2022) |
On 14th October, IMDA Singapore issued new directives on sender ID registration. All sender IDs must be registered directly with Singapore SMS Sender ID Registry ("SSIR") by 31st January 2023. After 31st January, unregistered sender IDs will be replaced with "Likely-SCAM". The sender ID replacement will be implemented until 31st July 2023. From 1st August 2023 onwards, all unregistered sender IDs will be rejected.
Notes on the registration process:
- All Organisations must register with SSIR directly. The purpose of requiring Organisations to register their Sender IDs directly is to ensure that only bona fide Organisations can use Sender IDs to send SMS to Singapore mobile users.
- Organisations must have valid identification (i.e., the UEN) to register sender ID. Foreign-based businesses must first obtain a UEN by registering with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority ("ACRA").
- The SSIR will assign Sender IDs on a first-come-first-served basis, and may clarify with registrants if they have a trademark or other legitimate claim to the Sender ID.
- The SSIR registration fees are: a. One-time set up fee of $500; and b. Annual $200 per Sender ID. The fees are in SGD and shall liaise with SSIR for the payment.
- Organisations can start to register with the SSIR from 31 October 2022 onwards.
- A copy of the press release from IMDA on this matter can be found here.
- To contact SSIR, please write to smsregistry@sgnic.sg or info@imda.gov.sg or visit https://www.sgnic.sg/smsregistry/overview.
Reminder again to note:
Moving forward we will no longer accept dynamic TPOA for traffic into Singapore when the policy kicks in Jan 31 2023. Now to Jan 31, aggregators/customers must still register a Sender ID with us regardless.

13: SMS Singapore Full Sender ID Registration to be required by January 2023 (15 Oct 2022) |
SINGAPORE, 14 Oct 2022 - The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is set to
implement two new measures following a public consultation.
First, registration with the Singapore SMS Sender ID Registry ("SSIR") will be mandatory for
all organisations that use SMS Sender IDs, so that only bona fide organisations can use such
Sender IDs.
Second, telecom operators will implement SMS anti-scam filtering solutions within their
mobile networks, to automatically filter potential scam messages before they reach
consumers.
This is part of the multi-pronged effort by IMDA and other stakeholders to further safeguard
SMS as a communications channel.

14: (Philippines)Temporary Blocking of Text Messages with Website Links (01 Oct 2022) |
Dear Partner,
Please be advised that only Person-to-Person (P2P) SMS are affected by the temporary blocking of messages with embedded links from any network as announced by Globe Telecom this afternoon, September 30, 2022.
This directive will not affect Application-to-Person (A2P) SMS or legitimate SMS broadcasts using masked Sender IDs. iSMS maintains its position to recommend and encourage all of its subscribers to avoid using external links as those suspected to be fraudulent will still be automatically blocked.
In a statement released by Globe's Chief Information Security Officer, Anton Bonifacio, with the blocking of sending and/or delivery of P2P SMS with external links, less potent smishing incidents in the coming days will hopefully be expected.
iSMS would like to thank its valued partners for their collaboration and support in the initiatives implemented against smishing campaigns.
Rest assured that efforts to implement stricter protocols are constantly improved.
